The Gloucester County Community Church began in July of 1982 when the Rev. Dr. J. Bruce Sofia and a small group of believers felt called to begin an interdenominational, Bible based, missionary minded, evangelical "fellowship" with the purpose of meeting the needs of people from the youngest to the oldest, in all areas of living, from worship to entertainment, from the spiritual to the physical as the Lord so provides and directs.

That handful of people has now grown into a diverse congregation of over 3,000. Throughout the week a variety of activities, ministries and support groups are offered for all ages.

In July of 1993, ground was broken on Chapel Heights Rd., Washington Township, New Jersey (18.1 acres) to begin construction of a church building, and on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1996, the GCCC family entered the "Promised Land." The new facility contains a sanctuary that seats 1,000 people, an Activity Center, Kitchen, Chapel, Offices, and Classrooms for over 200 children. Under God's direction they built the church debt-free. Today, the church is worth $12 million.

In 2006, GCCC gave birth to Bethel Prep, New Jersey's FIRST Principle Approach "Biblical-Classical" Christian Academy which offers quality education with excellence. The teaching staff id NJ certified.

As GCCC entered it's 26th year, Pastor Bruce and the Pastoral Staff embarked on a new philosophical approach and administrative structure and to ministry;one that is intentional about the "process" of developing disciples who model Christ. We call this process S C S: Sharing Christ, Connecting People and Serving Others, the purpose of which is to become more like Him. This new approach to ministry has been enthusiastically received and is the foundational philosophy for GCCC's future.

Future plans may include additional campus facilities, campus churches and an off-campus educational facility for Bethel Prep. GCCC's Radio & Television ministries, Changed By The Word, celebrates 25 years of reaching our local community and the world-at-large through the internet and satellite.
